Day 148

May 28, 2010

Had my last lesson with my Friday kids today. A bit sad but at the end of the lesson they all gave me a big hug and I almost toppled over. I hope to see them all in September.

Walked back home through piazza Castello. I've taken many photos in that square so it was a little challenging finding new angles to shoot.

Had a lovely night out with Luca. We went for a late dinner at a favorite restaurant down town.
We got home a litte late and Luca was pretty knackered. I still didn't have my photo and Luca didn't mind at all, really!

I had an awesome afternoon all by myself. The opera program for next season came out today and I picked it up right away. We're gonna have to move fast if we wanna get season tickets.
The weather was great and I just love to sit in the sun on a little italian piazza with a book and a glass of cold white wine.

We went to the sea side this Sunday. Summer season is finally here. We lay on the beach in the morning and had an amazing seafood lunch at a favourite restaurant.
I love the amazing view from the balcony, I hope we can go plenty of times this summer.

May 22, 2010

What a lovely day, so warm and sunny. I rode my bike to the park to meet some friends.

Looks like hats are in season.

They'd been shooting a movie or something in the park. Lots of people dressed up in old clothes. I guess this was one of the props.

This is sweet little Julian, he's so adorable.

And with his proud parents in the background.

I guess I could crop it to make it a little more interesting.

Today I presented my first portfolio ever! It was the end of the of the beginners photography course I've been doing for the last few months. As there weren't any rules for the portfolio and I didn't have time to go and do a theme project, I selected 10 photos from my 365 project that I thought would go well together and presented it as 'Torino through my eyes'.

Day 137

May 17, 2010

We went out to try a new sushi restaurant and over dinner I kept wondering what to shoot today. Luca suggested that I tried to get a cool shot of Mole Antonelliana, a major landmark of Turin. I got a few different angles but I like this one best because the color and sharpness came out just right without any editing.

Day 136

May 16, 2010

We had Sunday lunch with Luca's grandparents who live in the country side.
On the way back I met this mean looking cow. Here in Italy the cows stroll around with an enormous bell around their neck and all together they make this really cool orchestra and you are immediately transported into 'The Sound of Music' or 'Heidi'

The trip back to Italy was long and boring and I didn't take any photos. I snapped this out of the window on the way to the airport. The sunrise at 5:15am.

Day 134

May 14, 2010

I couldn't leave before checking out what all the fuss was about.

As we were driving out of town, the cloudy sky didn't look very promising

The first glimpse of the gray ash cloud, hidden behind ordinary clouds.
If you look closely you can see that the horses are kicking up ash from the grass. Poor little guys. My dad told me that they dust the ash off the grass with their nuzzle before eating.

As we drew closer I started to understand the enormity of the ash cloud. That day it was a few kilometers high. In comparison, the waterfall in the foreground is around 60m (200ft).

More ash on the ground as we drew closer. It started to get darker as well, as we were driving into the ash fall. We could hear it on the car window as falling rain.

And that's as far as we went, this is the view from the highway.

Wider angle, on the right you can see how the glacier has been colored black by the ash. I really feel for the people living out there.

Another farm covered in ash.

The sky was clearing up as we were driving back.

My dad with the cloud in the background.

The car got pretty dirty from the ash fall.

See you soon Iceland.

Day 133

May 13, 2010

I forgot to take an extra memory card and I seem to have lost a few photos in the process of dwl them from the camera to my mum's pc and then transfering to usb.
Very annoying. I still have a few photos for every day so at least the project isn't ruined.

Went out of town to see my maternal grandmother.

Took a late evening walk

From the front yard

I spent the day with my paternal grandmother. I think she is such an elegant lady (almost 82).

I'm trying to decide if I like better the portrait or landscape version.

I totally heart her awesome living room furniture, doesn't have just the greatest details.

Took a little drive with my family on Sunday. I wanted to get a better shot of the horses but they just came over for a second to see if we had any treats and then trotted away. The little foal had one blue eye and the other brown.

Then some typical Icelandic landscape. I love the soft feel of the moss over tha lava.

Day 128

May 8, 2010

I'm back home now. I took some photos every day in Iceland so now I have to go through them and hope there is at least one decent photo for every day.

In Italy you get great food everywhere but it's ALL Italian. I miss a few international treats. Like the lovely brunch I got at Heathrow airport. Strawberry and banana pancakes, yumm.
