Day 90

March 31, 2010

We've had all sorts of weather lately. It is pretty normal for spring time around her. It gets warmer, then colder, then warmer again. One minute the sun is shining, the other it rains as if poured from a bucket.
At least the plants seem to be enjoying it. Today I noticed that my favourite plant is finally in bloom. I'm not sure about the name, my mother in law told me once but I've forgotten. I call them cherry trees, they look very similar, although these don't bear fruit.
After a month or so, these pretty pink flowers will be replaced by dark burgundy leaves.

These photos are for my mom, as she loves these trees as well, and I was actually talking with her on the phone when I took these.

Day 89

March 30, 2010

When you live on the ground floor in a big city, there is always the fear of a break-in. I guess that's why you see bars on the windows down town. But if you live in an old beautiful Italian building, you're not just gonna have any old bars on your windows, they must be beautiful and decorative.
I spotted at least 10 different beautiful rails and bars on the 50m walk from my car to work. I'm only posting one now, but I had the idea to collect some more and make a little collection later on.

Day 88

March 29, 2010

problem: long and busy day, no time for photography.

solution: grab a random item and stick it in the lightbox

This is the pirat that stands next to my stove, he lets me know when the pasta is ready...by singing and dancing, as pirats do.

Day 87

March 28, 2010

I was feeling a bit sick this morning so I sent Luca off to ski with his dad while I slept in. When he came back this afternoon we took a little walk and then had a drink at a local bar. It's nice enough to sit outside in the evening now and there really wasn't any need for Luca's big mountain jacket, but he was being a little silly as you can see.

(the patio was lit up with blue lightbulbs, hence the blueness to the photos)

Day 84

March 25, 2010

We're invited to a wedding in Mexico in July so we finally took an evening to search for a good flight. The best part is that we get to see all the Canadian family again. Talking about them made us remember something that the Canadian grandparents told us last time. "Every Friday night we mix up a nice highball and spend an evening together talking about the past and all the great memories of our life together".

I think that is such a great tradition and a wonderful exercise to keep your mind active. So we made a highball in their honour and talked about some of the great memories we have made in the last seven years and the possibilities of so many more in the future.

oh and I picked up a bunch of lilies at the market. I just love to buy unopened buds and then wake up to find a pretty flower the next day.

Day 83

I've reached another breaking point in the project. I've been so busy lately that I can hardly find time to snap one photo and now I'm a few days behind on uploading.

March 24, 2010

I finally had a little free time this afternoon so I went out to get a few spring photos.

Day 82

March 23, 2010

Tuesday evening I met my photo group down town for a session of night photography. I'm not very happy with the results. Also I do need to invest in a good tripod, the ancient one that I was using wasn't very stable.
I have to choose 10 photos to bring to class next week. Here are a few.

Driving back home on Monday, we had the idea to visit the Fort of Exilles but it was closed. The city seemed pretty deserted as well.

We went to the mountains last weekend. The plan was to go skiing on Sunday but it was very foggy so instead we drove to France to visit Briançon.
I just love all the narrow little streets.

Daffodils are a little reminder that spring and Easter is almost here. Their name in Icelandic is Easter lily, although in Iceland they often bloom long after Easter.

Day 78

March 19, 2010

Today was a very nice day. I had a lovely lunch with Luca and a busy afternoon of teaching, then we went house hunting in the evening. I really hope that we are getting closer to finding our dream house, but I don't want to jinx anything.

Came home late so I just made a still life of this nice little pear.

Day 77

March 18, 2010

I came home late last night so I didn't have the time to upload the photo. We went to Luca's grandparents' house for dinner, which was lovely as always. Happy 88th Nonno Aurelio!

Day 76

March 17, 2010

Yay spring seems to have finally arrived! It was such a lovely day and I finished work early so I went for a nice long walk before returning home.

I came upon this funny sculpture on my walk, I like how it looks like the person is riding over the tree tops from this angle.

I couldn't resist playing with DOF in this tree tunnel.

The setting sun reflecting in the river Po, time to head home.

Day 75

March 16, 2010

I almost fell of the 365 wagon last Tuesday. I couldn't get a shot all day and then I went straight out after work to meet my friends. I wasn't about to give up so easily so I snapped a photo at the bar with my blackberry.
Very bad quality but it will have to do.

It was a very long and difficult day. We went out for a late dinner and I still hadn't taken a photo for today. Luca always gives me great ideas for photos and he is also a lovely model :)

Day 71

I went to see my friend Linda today and her sweet little Alan. He is just adorable!
I just wish I was better at taking baby photos. I have read a little about the setups, I will have to get better at lighting and I will need a portable heater, and some props. They say the best time is in the first 2 weeks. Oh well, maybe I will be good enough by the time the next baby in the group arrives ;)

Linda gave me the permission to post his photo, so everybody say hello to beautiful little Alan!

oh and I finished the little bib

Day 70

The sun came out today and melted all the snow, yay!
So I managed to get some photos of the pink tulips this morning. I have decided that red tulips are more photogenic :)
I didn't have any time for editing but I think it might be fun to play a little with texture with these.
